Now, if you’re looking for a slightly more affordable option, I suggest visiting another steakhouse, equally as good and much more accessible, it’s the locals’ favorite when it comes to meat: La Cabrera.

La Cabrera: Where Meat Reaches Perfection

In the heart of the Palermo neighborhood, La Cabrera offers a unique gastronomic experience with its juicy meat cuts. This restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a memorable dinner, ideal for meat lovers. From its iconic bife de chorizo to its succulent sweetbreads, each dish is a culinary masterpiece that will delight even the most discerning palate. Plus, if you’re on a tight budget, you can go during their Happy Hour, which is every day from 6 pm to 8 pm, and you’ll get a 40% discount on the entire menu! I recommend arriving a little earlier, around 5:30 pm, sign up, and take a walk through the lively Palermo neighborhood while you wait for your dining time. Just remember! By 8 pm, you’ll need to settle the bill and vacate the table for the dinner service that starts a bit later.

El Rebenque de Omar: Where Passion for Grilling Turns into Art

El Niño Gordo: The Best in Asian Cuisine

El Niño Gordo, as the restaurant defines itself: “It’s an Asian grill that proposes a mix of Eastern flavors combined with Porteño food. We offer a unique gastronomic experience in an atmosphere that combines intimacy and mystery with the playful spirit of pop culture.” It’s a restaurant serving Asian cuisine fused with historical Argentine flavors, and the result is incredible! You’d need to make a reservation to go, and I recommend doing so several days in advance.

How about enjoying a typical Argentine delight alongside the stunning views of the river at the iconic Costanera Sur in Buenos Aires? The choripán stalls found in this picturesque area are a must-stop for all food enthusiasts. Choripán is one of the most popular dishes in Argentina and consists of grilled chorizo served inside a crispy bread, usually accompanied by chimichurri, a sauce made of herbs and spices.

Imagine savoring this perfect combination of flavors and aromas while relaxing in the green spaces and enjoying the river breeze. It’s the locals’ favorite spot, especially on weekends. Don’t miss the chance to try this authentic Porteño culinary delight during your next visit to Costanera Sur!

Florería Atlántico is renowned for its extensive menu of creative and sophisticated cocktails. The bartenders are mixology experts who are always ready to surprise with innovative combinations and unique flavors. In addition to classic cocktails, they also offer original creations that reflect the essence of the bar and its maritime theme.

The bar has received several national and international accolades. It has been included in lists of the best bars in the world and has won several awards for its excellence in mixology and its unique ambiance. You can’t miss it!

1 Casa Rosada and Plaza de Mayo

The first and most well-known place is undoubtedly the Casa Rosada, the seat of the Argentine government, and one of the most emblematic buildings in Buenos Aires. Located in the historic Plaza de Mayo, this place has witnessed significant historical events and is a symbol of Argentina’s national identity.

Plaza de Mayo has witnessed key moments in Argentine history, from independence to struggles for human rights. If you’re looking to learn more about Argentina’s recent history, this is the right place! Every Thursday at 3:30 pm, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo hold their “round” around the May Pyramid. Here, you can meet them, talk to them, and learn about their cause.

2 La Boca Neighborhood (my favorite place to visit in Buenos Aires)

This is undoubtedly one of my favorite places! Known for its brightly colored houses, strong connection to tango culture, and passion for soccer. La Boca neighborhood is a party of colors! It’s one of the must-visit places in Buenos Aires and undoubtedly the most picturesque. The famous Caminito is a pedestrian street full of life, art, and music, where street artists bring tango to life and restaurants serve typical Argentine dishes.

Additionally, the neighborhood is home to the stadium of Club Atlético Boca Juniors, La Bombonera, which is a temple of Argentine soccer. If you have the chance to attend a soccer match here, please, without a doubt, DO IT! It will be a unique experience filled with passion! The neighborhood is beautiful, and of course, you can visit it on your own, but if you want to learn some history and local secrets, I highly recommend taking a free tour.

3 The Ateneo bookstore

Located in a former theater, is one of the most beautiful and iconic places in Buenos Aires. Considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, El Ateneo Grand Splendid is a unique place to get lost among shelves full of books and enjoy a coffee on the old theater stage. Pictures speak louder than words, so here are some photos:

4 Centro Kirchner (and its free guided tour)

This is one of the best places to fully immerse yourself in the local culture. The Centro Cultural Kirchner, formerly known as the Palace of Mail and Telecommunications, is a majestic building that has been restored and repurposed as a cultural center. The CCK always has something interesting to offer, from art exhibitions to live concerts. Among the many attractions the CCK offers, there is a true gem: La Ballena Azul, a concert hall with incredible acoustics and a beautiful space. The best part: They offer free guided tours to explore their exhibition halls, concert halls, and cultural spaces (more info here).

5 The Congress (also with free guided tour)

The Congress is the palace of democracy in Buenos Aires. It’s where important decisions are made and the country’s laws are discussed. But beyond its political significance, the Congress building has its own charm that truly captivated me. It’s a majestic building with very elaborate interior decoration and a large number of artworks and sculptures that adorn its halls and corridors. You can’t miss one of the guided tours; it’s like taking a walk through Argentine history, and you’ll learn a lot of interesting things! (more info here).

6 The Obelisco

Enjoy an afternoon outdoors in the heart of the city! Take a walk through downtown until you reach the Obelisco, the meeting point for everyone. The Buenos Aires Obelisco is one of the most iconic and beloved symbols, it’s an imposing stone structure that rises majestically in the heart of the city, like a silent guardian of its history and vibrant spirit. It’s always bustling with people and is a great spot for taking photos and enjoying the views.

On the side, you’ll see the well-known initials “BA” carved into shrubs; this is one of those must-have photos in Buenos Aires. At night is when the Obelisco truly comes to life. Don’t miss the bright lights surrounding it, especially those on Corrientes Street, known as the “Avenue that never sleeps”.

Every time I pass by the Obelisco, I feel an instant connection with the frenetic rhythm of Buenos Aires. It’s an emblematic meeting point where people of all ages and backgrounds intersect, each with their own story and destination.

7 The Comic Strip Walk

The Comic Strip Walk always amazes me with its colorful sculptures of Argentinians favorite characters and lively murals. As a lover of street art and comics, it’s fantastic to see how art can transform a public space and bring joy to the community. This place is a true tribute to the art of Argentine comics, and it will make you feel like a kid again!

8 San Telmo Market

Don’t miss out on eating at the San Telmo Market! This is THE place for Argentine street food. It’s always bustling with life and energy, and you can find everything here! They have many stalls serving typical food, each one tastier than the last. Don’t miss the famous choripan! You’ll find some excellent ones here! It’s just awesome!

9 The San Telmo Craft Fair (Sundays)

Since we’re in San Telmo, we can’t leave out the famous San Telmo Fair that takes place on Sundays. It’s a feast for the senses, a street festival full of color, music, and fun. I love exploring the antique and craft stalls, listening to live music, and enjoying the super bohemian atmosphere of the neighborhood. You can find everything from vintage clothing to local art and unique souvenirs. And don’t forget to try the empanadas and mate, they’re delicious!

10 The Recoleta Craft Fair

And, since we’re talking about fairs, I’ll tell you that on weekends, the Recoleta Fair is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere and discover hidden treasures among the stalls. I prefer the atmosphere of the San Telmo, but it’s true that you can find beautiful things at the Recoleta fair! I always find something unique and special. It’s the perfect place to buy unique gifts to take home. The Recoleta Fair is a hidden gem in the middle of the city. There’s always something interesting to discover, from local art to gourmet products!

11 Palermo and its bars and restaurants

The neighborhood of Palermo has a unique charm that captivates me every time I visit. I love exploring its lively streets and discovering new bars, cafes, and restaurants with cozy, relaxed, and super Instagrammable atmospheres! Palermo is the hub of nightlife in Buenos Aires. There’s always something exciting to do, whether it’s going out for drinks with friends or simply strolling through its bustling streets. The bars are like little oases of fun, with live music, delicious cocktails, and an incredible atmosphere!

12 The Floralis Genérica

The Floralis Genérica is one of my favorite sculptures in Buenos Aires. It’s a metal sculpture shaped like a flower, simply breathtaking! Normally, it opens and closes with the changes in light, creating a beautiful spectacle. The last time I visited (in February 2024), it was damaged by a storm, but even in that condition, it looked spectacular! It’s always worth a visit!

13 Puerto Madero (Day and Night)

If you’re looking for things to do in Buenos Aires at night, I highly recommend Puerto Madero. It’s one of my favorite places to be at night. I love walking along its waterfront, admiring the modern architecture, and enjoying the effects of the lights on the river. Puerto Madero is the perfect place to experience Buenos Aires’ nightlife. During the day, you can wander its waterfront streets, soak up the sun, and enjoy the views. And at night, it turns into a bustling hub, with restaurants, bars, and nightclubs for every taste!

14 Chinatown

Exploring Chinatown is like embarking on a journey to Asia. If you love Asian food as much as I do (I adore Ramen!), you have to visit Chinatown! It’s full of delicious aromas and exotic flavors, not to mention the unique Asian architecture. Here, you can find everything from authentic Chinese food to fresh ingredients and kitchen utensils. It’s an experience you can’t miss!

15 The Water Museum

The building of the Water Museum is undoubtedly the most spectacular in Buenos Aires, even if just to admire it from the outside, you can’t miss it! This impressive building, constructed in the 19th century, is an integral part of the city’s history and has been carefully restored to house this unique museum.

The museum is a fascinating place that combines education and entertainment. It helps you learn about the importance of water and the environment in an engaging way. You’ll discover everything about the water cycle, the importance of caring for our natural resources, and the history of water supply in Buenos Aires. Educational visits to the museum are free!

16 Recoleta Neighborhood

Recoleta is one of the most elegant neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. It’s known for its aristocratic architecture, green spaces, and cultural offerings, including palaces and embassies. Recoleta is a must-visit destination for any visitor to the city! Take a stroll down Avenida Alvear, which is especially known for its designer shops, luxury fashion boutiques, and elegant restaurants.

I recommend exploring the Recoleta neighborhood with a Free Tour, just as I did. It’s an enriching experience. I enjoy learning about the history and culture of the neighborhood while discovering its most charming corners and best-kept secrets.

17 The Galileo Galilei Planetarium

Visiting the Buenos Aires Planetarium is a unique experience that allows you to discover the wonders of the universe. I love enjoying the screenings of movies and astronomical shows that offer a new perspective on the cosmos. At the entrance, they have a piece of a real meteorite that fell in the Argentine province of Chaco 4000 years ago! (Isn’t that incredible?) Located in Parque Tres de Febrero, the Galileo Galilei Planetarium offers astronomical projections and interactive exhibitions about the universe and astronomy. It’s an educational and fun place to visit for both children and adults alike. They offer free visits, but you have to make a reservation. More info can be found here.

Buenos Aires, although known for its hustle and bustle, also houses true natural treasures that deserve to be explored. You can't talk about Buenos Aires without mentioning its parks, from flower-filled parks to spaces dedicated to reflection and memory. That's why the last 3 free places you can't miss in Buenos Aires are its parks!

18 The Rosedal

If you visit Buenos Aires in the summer, you can’t miss the Rosedal! With its beautiful paths, lakes, and over 18,000 blooming rose bushes, the Rosedal is a true paradise. Walking through its trails is like stepping into a fairy tale, with roses of all colors and scents filling the air, not to mention the countless spots for beautiful photographs! Trust me: Don’t miss it!

19 El parque de la Memoria

El parque de la memoria, or, The Memory Park is a peaceful and moving place that invites you to reflect, with many sculptures and outdoor artworks. I really enjoy strolling along its paths that border the beautiful Río de la Plata, it’s incredible! I invite you to contemplate the commemorative monuments that honor the victims of state terrorism in Argentina.

More than just a park, it’s a space of tribute.

20 The Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is a green oasis in the middle of the city, the ideal place to disconnect and connect with nature. With an impressive collection of plants and trees from around the world, the Botanical Garden is perfect for exploring, having a picnic, or simply relaxing in the shade of a tree. Don’t miss the butterfly passage! It’s a small path always filled with beautiful butterflies of all colors, truly magical!

1 Ushuaia: The End of the World

Ushuaia, known as the City of the End of the World, is a perfect starting point for exploring the Argentinean Patagonia. It’s located on the southern coast of Tierra del Fuego, this beautiful city is home to stunning natural beauty and a rich maritime history. It is surrounded by majestic mountains and the spectacular Beagle Channel. Ushuaia offers plenty of activities for visitors, including boat excursions along the Beagle Channel, hikes on the trails of Tierra del Fuego National Park, visits to an island full of penguins , and much more. In short, there is something for everyone, regardless of tastes and budgets.

I would say there are 3 main activities in Ushuaia: Trekking (available at all levels), boat tours along the Beagle Channel, and trips to Tierra del Fuego National Park. Additionally, of course, to exploring the city itself, which is very charming.

Trekking

It’s the most affordable activity in Ushuaia and it offers breathtaking views. It’s almost free, as you only need to pay for transportation to the trailheads, but using Uber makes it quite economical. There are several beautiful trails with varying difficulty levels, the most well-known being the Glacier Martial Trail, Cerro Guanaco Trail, and in my opinion, the most impressive and rewarding one, the Laguna Esmeralda Trail.

The last one, the Laguna Esmeralda Trail, takes you through beautiful forests to the spectacular Laguna Esmeralda, it’s truly incredible! With its emerald-colored waters and mountains surrounding, it’s a landscape that will stay with you, and your photos will be great . It’s considered moderately difficult, but honestly, I didn’t find it too challenging. In any case, I assure you, it’s totally worth it!

Boat Tours along the Beagle Channel

When visiting Ushuaia, it’s almost mandatory to embark on a boat tour along the Beagle Channel, as it’s one of the most popular activities. The tours usually depart from the port of Ushuaia and traverse a section of the channel that separates the islands of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. During the journey, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the snowy mountains, glaciers, and rocky islands lining the channel.

The highlight of the tour is the visit to Sea Lion Island (from the boat), which is home to important colonies of sea lions. You’ll be able to observe these fascinating animals in their natural habitat and take spectacular pictures. Throughout the tour, it’s common to spot a variety of wildlife, such as sea lions, cormorants, penguins, whales, and occasionally dolphins.

Visit to Martillo Island

For me, without a doubt, it’s the most beautiful thing you can do in Ushuaia (I visited Ushuaia mainly for this tour!). On Martillo Island, you’ll come face to face with a colony of Magellanic penguins. You’ll see them running, playing, dancing, and bathing in the icy waters of the channel. It will be one of the most beautiful and rewarding activities you’ve ever done in your life! (well, it was for me ).

There are several options for your tour to Martillo Island. You can find agencies at the main dock that offer different tours: some navigate to the island, while others partly travel by land. Most agencies allow you to see the penguins from the boat. Only one agency allows you to disembark on the island, walk around it, and see thousands of penguins up close (especially during the summer). However, they are quite strict: touching, playing with, or interfering with the penguins in any way is not allowed. The agency offering this option is Piratour Travel, and you can also find them at the dock. (https://piratour.net/)

Visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park

This park is also a must-visit if you love nature. You can enjoy lagoons, beautiful trails, take a photo at the iconic sign at the end of Route 3 (the road that runs the entire length of the continent from Alaska), send a postcard from The End of the World Post Office, and even take the famous End of the World Train. All of this can be done by booking a tour or using your own car.

About the End of the World Train: I did it once and wouldn’t do it again, to be honest. I wouldn’t recommend it, unless you absolutely want to have the famous photo on the train. It’s a short ride with a stop for taking photos with some characters (which you have to buy, of course). If you go by car, you can almost follow the same route as the train, and if you want photos or videos of the train, it might even be nicer since you can see it passing by at various points.

Budget

Let’s talk about budget now: Ushuaia is generally an expensive city, but you can perfectly visit it on a moderate budget. If you go by car, you’ll save on transfers and can make several visits on your own. You can also get around using Uber, which is quite economical (there is no public transportation). There are all kinds of restaurants, both expensive and cheap, as well as hotels. I stayed at Anum Hostel, I loved the atmosphere, everything was always clean, and they provide a good breakfast.

If you go in summer, which is high season, I recommend booking your excursions in advance. If you go out of season, you may get better prices directly from the agencies, as there are fewer people and they are more open to negotiation.

2 El Calafate, Gateway to the Perito Moreno Glacier (My Favorite in Argentine Patagonia)

El Calafate, located in the province of Santa Cruz, is another must-visit destination on your trip through Argentinean Patagonia. This small town is known as the gateway to the majestic Los Glaciares National Park, home to the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier.

Los Glaciares National Park is a sanctuary of ice and nature, one of the most stunning natural treasures of Argentinean Patagonia. It covers over 7,000 square kilometers and hosts a great variety of ecosystems, from imposing glaciers to lush forests and crystal-clear lakes. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the majesty of the Perito Moreno Glacier from different perspectives: walking along the walkways in front of the glacier, sailing on Lake Argentino for a panoramic view, kayaking to get even closer to this ice wonder, or trekking into the heart of the glacier.

No matter how you choose to explore it, the Perito Moreno Glacier will leave you breathless with its imposing size and natural beauty. In addition to the glacier, the park offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, birdwatching, and camping, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of Argentine Patagonia.

I fell in love with the views from the moment I saw them! Few places in the world have surprised me so much. As soon as I first saw that gigantic ice mountain, I knew I had to see it and explore it in every possible way. My bank account suffered quite a bit but I didn’t regret it for a moment.

Kayaking on Lake Argentino

What I enjoyed most of all the activities was kayaking; it’s an amazing experience. You immerse yourself in the majesty and beauty of the glacier landscape, getting quite close to the glacier and along the way, you can touch the pieces of ice that have broken off. When you’re close, you just want to stop and admire the wall of ice. Everyone in the group stayed silent for a while, impressed, completely fascinated by the incredible view.

For this activity, no prior knowledge is required, it’s okay if it’s your first time kayaking; the guides will give you all the necessary explanations. You also don’t need any particular equipment, they will provide everything for you. You can find all the information here: Mil Outdoor.

Mini-Trekking on the Perito Moreno Glacier

The famous Mini-Trekking is one of the most popular activities on the Perito Moreno Glacier. Equipped with crampons and accompanied by an expert guide, you’ll walk on the brilliant blue ice of the glacier, exploring crevasses, ice caves, and marveling at the impressive glacier formations.

Trekking on the Perito Moreno Glacier is a truly unique experience. It begins with a short boat ride from the walkways of Los Glaciares National Park to the glacier’s disembarkation point. Once you reach the glacier, the expert guide provides you with all the necessary equipment—crampons, helmet, and ice axe—and gives you a safety briefing and instruction on ice walking techniques. After receiving the necessary instructions, the exciting ice walk begins.

Walking on the glacier is a surreal experience. The feeling of being in the middle of a vast mass of ice, surrounded by peaks and deep crevasses, is truly inspiring. The crampons provide traction on the ice, allowing you to walk safely on slippery and steep surfaces. As you progress, the guide leads you through mazes of crevasses and ice caves, each more beautiful than the last.

Going up is quite easy, but going down is another story . I was a bit scared when descending. The guide had to repeat a couple of times that I had to trust the crampons. When I finally realized that indeed, with crampons, you don’t slip, my fear vanished, and finishing the descent was a breeze.

Learn about the importance of glaciers

In addition to the natural beauty of the glacier, trekking on Perito Moreno also offers the opportunity to learn about the importance of glaciers in the ecosystem and climate change. Expert guides provide information on the formation and evolution of glaciers, as well as the impacts of climate change on these fragile ecosystems.

If you’re planning to do this tour, I recommend booking it at least a week in advance as spots fill up quickly. I met a couple of people at the hostel who couldn’t do it because they didn’t book in time . Also, it’s best to contact the organizers directly, without going through other intermediary agencies. The only ones authorized to do this and other treks on the Perito Moreno are Hielo & Aventura.

The walkways

Located within Los Glaciares National Park and offer incredible views! They wind along the entire perimeter of the glacier, offering visitors stunning views of this natural wonder. In this surreal environment, you can perfectly hear the roar of icefalls as you walk. And if you pay closer attention, you can also hear the creaking of the glaciers in motion.

I won’t lie, the first two activities, the Mini-trekking on the Glacier and the kayak, are quite expensive. You don’t have to do them if you’re not as enthusiastic as I am. I guarantee that just walking on the walkways will be delightful and totally worth the trip.

Visiting Perito Moreno Glacier, in any way, is an experience that will awaken your senses and deeply connect you with the grandeur of nature.

3 El Chaltén: The Trekking Capital

If you’re into trekking, you’ll be amazed in El Chaltén! It’s known as the “Trekking Capital“. I’m not a huge trekking fan, but I do it gladly because I know the views are totally worth it. When I arrived in El Chaltén, my energy and budget were already pretty low, so I only did one excursion to appreciate the Cerro Fitz Roy.

El Chaltén is definitely the perfect destination for adventure and nature lovers. Many people I met in Ushuaia and El Calafate had spent a week doing various trails in El Chaltén. You can explore routes like Cerro Fitz Roy, Laguna de los Tres, Laguna Torre, and Laguna Capri, which offer breathtaking views of mountains, glaciers, and lakes.

Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre are two of the most emblematic mountains in Argentine Patagonia. With their snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and stunning landscapes, these hiking trails offer panoramic views that will leave you breathless. Additionally, you can enjoy activities like birdwatching, fishing, and camping amidst pristine nature.
