You’ll be walking quite a bit during this adventure. But don’t worry, every step will be worth it. So, lace up your comfortable shoes, grab your camera, fill your water bottle, and get ready for an unforgettable experience in the Eternal City!

Before we dive into our 3-day itinerary for Rome, here are the 3 things I wish I had known before going to Rome:

1. No matter when you go, Rome will ALWAYS be crowded, so be mentally prepared to navigate through waves of people. If you want to enjoy some sights like the Trevi Fountain or the Spanish Steps without the crowds, aim to arrive around 6 in the morning.
2. Buy your tickets in advance! This is essential as tickets can sell out quickly, and leaving it until the last minute may result in not finding any or having to pay much more.
3. Public transportation in Rome is not reliable. Firstly, the metro is quite small (normal for a city with so many historical monuments underground). Buses can take a long time, especially at night. So, be prepared to do a lot of walking!

Day 1 of the 3-day Rome itinerary: Discover Ancient Treasures

To begin with, the Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo, which houses masterpieces by artists such as Caravaggio, Bernini, and Raphael. Then we have the twin churches, known as the “Twin Churches of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto,” located on opposite sides of the square, adding a touch of symmetry and harmony to this urban space. There is also the imposing Egyptian obelisk, which rises majestically in the center of the square.
